Happy Birthday, Happy Fucking Birthday, Happy Fucking Birthday To YOU!

Guess who turned 60 today?
That's right! The cutest, most amazing Mom that ever lived...I'm a touch partial, obvs.

My Mom has been rockin' it amazing, hilarious, and adorable for longer than you could ever imagine...and she does it with amazing talent, skill, and ease!

I love you Mom! Happy Birthday...and here's to MANY MANY more!

P.S. This pic is in the movie theater just before 'UP' started...which pretty much broke my evil black heart!

Total Crap

So, also...real quick like, I just want to continue to encourage you all to attend the 8th annual Total Fest that is happening in Missoula, MT!
August 20th-22nd!

My friend Miriam, from the pic below, is heading up to Montucky with me to take in the beautiful sights, the wicked hot licks, rockin' good times, and handsome gentlemen!

You should go too!
Missoula is like an oasis of DIY spirit and the rivers are cool and inviting!
You'll make pals that will let you camp in their front yard and the BBQ cup runneth over!

Just sayin'...You should meet me there!

Be Creative!

So, I've been yearning, for a while, to see Faythe Levine's movie 'Handmade Nation'.
It's a documentary about the three E's of DIY culture - Excitement, Energy, and Enthusiasm!

People have always been crafting...it's just never been as celebrated and valued as it is now!

So, I snuck out to the Mayan on Broadway to see the show. I love the Mayan!
There's lots of magic in there!

Guess who I wrangled into attending with me?

MIRIAM! She's always ready and willing to jump into adventures with me!
How can anyone not love that about her!?

So, here's the deal: GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
If you have a chance to see it in a theater and contribute to your community, DO IT!
However, if you can't see it at your local cinema - rent this sucker!

Watching this film will make you want to craft...it will make you want to be a part of a talented and creative community of people that gravitate toward one another BECAUSE of a shared interest in creating!

You won't regret it! There is humor and humanity in this wonderful, lovely film!
And check out and support your own DIY community in your town or city...
Also, have a look at Faythe's blog HERE and her movie's website HERE!

Too Many Mother Uckers Ucking With My Shi

Red Rocks Amphitheater!

It's beautiful there...it's everything that everyone says it is...

I suppose if you saw the Grateful Dead here back in the day, like my good friend Jen, you are fully aware of what the scenery does for your experience.

For me, I saw the Sex Pistols here AGES ago.
They were old and Johnny Rotten kept sucking oxygen because the altitude was having it's way with him.
It sucked.

I joined up with a couple of favorites...we'd been pining for this evening for months!

Maura, Becky, Meg - Flight of the Conchords fans!

First, Iron & Wine played. It was good. I mean, as background music.
I suppose if I really loved Iron & Wine I probably would have been enraptured, as the rocky amphitheater made him sound so dreamy...
Still, it was kind of a downer.
Just sayin'.

In between Iron and Wine and Flight of the Conchords we ended up with some seating drama, but Meg quickly whisked us down to the 16th row where we enjoyed the remainder of the show!

Before the Conchords, Arj Barker (he plays Dave the pawn shop owner) did a short comedy set.
He was pretty funny...

And he asked the whole audience to flip the bird...

That's a lot of middle fingers!

And then it was Bret and Jemaine!

I know a lot of people don't like "novelty" music.
But for me, laughter is #1.
So, if you can rock out and also make me laugh...it's pretty much the best combination ever!

Meg, Maura, and I sat in row 16 and laughed our asses off.
We sang along to the songs we knew and cackled so much that the girls in front of us (who didn't know how to have a good time) kept turning around and glaring at us.

So, to all you ladies too scared to have fun...suck it, we're laughing for you too!

As the cool breezes wafted in and the night got darker the whole place became more magical.
Maura saw a shooting star and I was crazy jealous about that.

It was a pretty great night.
Although, the hike back to the car was debilitating, I had to pee in a port-a-potty, and the traffic out of Red Rocks is cut throat and tedious.

I'll be back at Red Rocks in a couple weeks...LEONARD COHEN!
Baby S is taking me for my birthday!

The summer is just starting and I'm working on a comeback.

Hey, P.S.

You've Gotta Believe Me...

I thought I lost my camera, but it turns out it was in one of my jacket pockets.

I have some catching up to do.

My Shadow, I Follow It All The Way Home

Spencer and I met Steph at the Ballpark Market!

We made sure to get there extra early so we could scope out all the early bird goodies.

There was the best Indian jewelry we had ever seen.
I'm hoping that a sort of crazy lady inlaid crab ring is still there the next time I go...

Sometimes it's nice to get an early start.

Hello, is it me you're looking for?
Picture rediskulous.

I love LoDo when there aren't any knuckleheaded meat necks and overperfumed high heel wearers killing my production.

There was a Hardy Boys lunch box back there.

For some reason, my mom told me the story about the girl from Goldfinger that died from being covered in gold paint and it always stuck with me...

Hot rod magazines always get Steph's attention.

I love vintage linens and handmade doilies, hot pads, and tea towels.
This guy let me mix and match!

Hoo boy! That necklace with the lady sign sort of scared the living shit out of me.

I'm the proud owner of that blue WYO tray...

The lady working this booth was a little shady...she would give you a lower price and then when you saw the price on the item you had in your hands was more...she would back track.

For instance, this AWESOME paint by number kitten picture said $1.99, but she charged me three.
Whatev though, seriously...this thing is magic.

Quiet...

Next time you should come along with us to the Ballpark Market...
It's lots of fun and you might just find a treasure!

Put Them All Together They Spell...

I was going to try to think up some brillz revision to the Eddy Arnold 'M-O-T-H-E-R' song, but despite how inspired I am by how AMAZING my mother is, I am sort of dragging ass.
SO - I'm going to post the lyrics here from Eddy's song...because there's a good chance I couldn't really have done much better!

"M" is for the mercy she possesses "O" means that I owe her all I own "T" is for her tender, sweet caresses "H" is for her hands that made a home "E" means ev'rything she's done to help me "R" means real and regular, you see Put them all together they spell MOTHER, a word that means the world to me.

You see, my mom is pretty much the most amazing person in the world to me.
I'm learning this more and more as I get older. I'm so proud to be her daughter and proud of the life that she made for us.

It's funny, over 20 years ago, we had a pretty tough Mother's Day.
Long story short...I got run over by a car and my mom's ex-boyfriend shot at us with a semi-automatic weapon. Yeah. On the same day...

Those were scary times.
I'm fairly certain my mom felt the weight of the world on her shoulders...and having an 8 year old kid must have seemed like such a huge responsibility.
But no matter how painful, difficult, transitional, or confusing our lives were...she managed to stay 100% committed to our life and our family.

Life often surprises us with the painful and transitional, but courage, integrity, and love helps us to persevere.
My mom lives by those principles.

So, today...I want to say thank you to my mom. She's such an incredible, hilarious, and loving entity in my life. I'm the luckiest kid ever.

Every part of the adventurer that I am comes from her guidance!

LOVE YOU MOMMA!
